Wow, John, you are going really off the beaten path with this one! Well done.
Kokopelli replied:
As I said in the beginning, this is pretty much AU to everything, but I am setting the stage for a better world for Harry to grow up in - if everything works out.

it is nice that Remus knows where Harry is.

With Frank dead, Harry's situation is even more problematic than before. Remus can't do much without allies.
Kokopelli replied:
A) Remus is making allies as he goes along and B) he's already got a few.

Thanks for the excellent update. At least Neville will keep one of his parents.

Frank dying was surprising, I expected more with him and Remus. Why hasn't Remus simply called the cops and dropped an anon tip so they can discover Harry in the closet while the Dursleys are out?
Kokopelli replied:
Because the Dark Lord Dumbledore is still standing by the levers of power. Never strike at a snake unless you intend to kill it. There is a plan for extracting Harry.

All lovely, and all interesting... but sad.
Kokopelli replied:
Thanks - and yes, it is sad.

Really well-written chapter, and yet very distressing. Frank and Alice never seem to catch a break. Without Frank, Harry's extraction and upbringing are again in doubt.Seems Frank forgot the first rule of law enforcement. make it home after your shift.
Rather pissed about Remus leaving Harry there. A little cash and some nice words would have Harry out of there lickity spit.
looking forward to another exciting installment.
Kokopelli replied:
Yeah, Frank kind of gets the short straw here, but there's a reason for it. Be patient with the Harry situation.

Nicely done so far; looks like a different situation for Neville -- he might have more confidence.
Kokopelli replied:
Neville actually makes an appearance soon.

Well dang, you just had to kill Frank off which makes getting custody of Harry that much more difficult. I do hope things go down that Narcissa does not get the aid of either Malfoy nor Black money to get out of the situation she is in. Bella being on the loose is bad, very bad.
Kokopelli replied:
Well, you won't see Narcissa's contribution until later in Chapter 6. Alice is still Harry's godmother - does anyone really think that Sirius Black has any business raising a two year old toddler?

I feel like there should be some obligatory dun dun duns here. Interesting twists to the story. Multiple character deaths, which should have many later ramifications. I am curious as to where the Julia bit is going. It feels very slice of life right, juxtaposed with the other scenes. Well written. I look forward to reading the fallout in the coming chapters.
Kokopelli replied:
Well, I'll start giving "character death" warnings when JKR does. I have plans for Alice, and Frank's a little too pureblood for my tastes, although he wasn't as much of a jerk as James Potter. As to the other casualties - this is exercising my awesome power as a fan fic writer. Whose death would make the HP universe a better place? Lucius and Cornelius went to the top of that list, with Barty Crouch a close second.

I am quite enjoying this story. I truly appreciate authors who don't just regurgitate 'canon', but actually explore and play around with the characters.

Dumbles was in everything up to his neck, which is why he did all his jobs so poorly.
