Interesting. A 'Not Useless' Lockhart is a rare character in HP fanon, even after all these years. I do have to admit a Voldemort influenced by the Canon Gildroy has real potential... I'm sorry you're not continuing this.

Nice to see something new from you. This is a wonderful gem of a story. The extremely self-serving Lockhart does have a redeeming quality - he cares about the welfare of his students. Who would've expected that? In your hands, though, it made sense. Your two examples showed small, perfect encounters that highlighted these good deeds, even showing Lockhart using different means to reach his goal. Using the 'Gilderoy Lockhart was many things' description at the start and end of this story was inspired. Looking forward to your next story. - The Seeker

Good to see you again! I was just reading one of Jeconis' stories (Matryoshka Vignettes) and stumbled across the chapter you wrote for him, and wondered what you had been up to lately. Fate it seems, is fortuitous. This version of Lockhart appears to be a fairly significant step up from what we saw in Rowling's books... that being said she has an awful lot of internal inconsistencies, so I'm okay with that. Always looking forward to your stuff, ~Manatheron

It's great to see your work again. I like your characterization of Lockhart and CoS plot as much as canon. It's interesting how many characters you delved into and how many plot points you covered in so few words. Thanks for writing!

OMG, you've made Lockhart a decent human being, well done! Very interested to see where this goes if you continue.
Kokopelli replied:
Oh, he's still a sleazeball, passing off other peoples accomplishments as his own - the word for that is stolen valor. As I write Lockhart, he's a competent sleazeball.

True, true, but a child is more gullible and naive. I'd expect most adults to see through Mr Riddle -- he was only sixteen, after all -- as well as the danger of an intelligent book.
Now Quirrel might be interesting, as he was actively seeking Voldemort.
You actually have presented a fairly competent and good(?) Lockart. Not sure he'd fall for the book. Hmm. hmm. Hmm. Now I'm trying to recall if I've ever come across a story with an adult using the diary. I kind of think I have, but I'm totally drawing a blank on details.
Kokopelli replied:
He's competent, but he's still stealing other people's accomplishments and obliviating people for his own convenience. He just does good along the way, when it's not inconvenient. He's vain, he's a liar, he covets all sorts of things, and has incredible lusts that drive his life. Not exactly "good" in my book. Even sleazeballs, however, can do the right thing.
Possessed Lockhart? That would be a scary story.

I enojyed this chapter very much. Paxton is an excellent original character; I found him very likeable. I also enjoyed seeing the story from someone other than Harry Potter's point of view.
Kokopelli replied:
I have two or three chapters that follow on from this. I didn't want to write something the size of Order of the Phoenix, but that's what the story arc looked like. Between family and work, I have precious litte time for writing these days. I may return to this someday. Thanks for your kind words.

I love this! I never liked the idea of Harry becoming an auror. After being forced to be a child soldier in canon, and his experiencrs with being controlled by Dumbledore and persecuted by the corrupt Ministry, I just can't see him willingly putting himself into a position where Ministry leadership can give him orders. While it would be nice to see the future outcome of this oneshot scenario, I find the fic as it currently exists to be wholely satisfying. Well done!
Kokopelli replied:
The next story in the vault is more or less the sequel. Yes, I never liked Auror-Harry - too much same-old, same-old.

Paxton is an original and decidedly non-HP type of character. Using him as the motor for this vehicle moves your (hopefully not) abandoned story beyond any I can think of in this Harry gets some help genre. Utilizing Amelia and Susan also makes it a story I'd love to read. In your hands, this could be an epic story. Hope your muse returns and you commit to it full-time. Thanks for sharing this snippet with us, The Seeker

It's been quite some time since I last reviewed this and I still must confess that I like it a great deal. I know you have given up on it as a lost cause, but (dangit) Paxton is too cool a character to be left unwritten. And the side story of Susan and Harry ("nothing propinks like propinquity," I mean, really) deserves to be written as well. C'mon, you know you can do it....please?
Kokopelli replied:
Thanks for your kind words. I'm working on a chapter or two in this story.

Solid setup, but the number of plotholes that JK tossed out with things like watching memories, truth potions, and vows kinda makes it hard to believe anything is hard to prove true when it actually is.

As usual, your writing is amazing. Just this summary of a story makes me interested in reading the full scope of it. If you're up to it, write it. If it really doesn't give you the "need" to be written, I will gladly read whatever notes you have made for this.

I hope you do go back and work on it some more. I am enjoying it MUCH more than almost all the other stories I read. It is nice to find a well thought-out and well written, logically consistent, story. Thank you for such a captivating tale.

I like this story and agree that Harry didn't even attempt to better himself after the rise of Voldemort. Thanks for sharing!

Fun to read one-shot. I still think that Tonks and Harry make a good couple. Thanks for sharing!
